I find that watching films and visiting exhibitions are effective ways to do research. In today's visit to galleries in soho. I went to the Hauser &Wirth gallery and Stephen Friedman Gallery which shows me how artists presents works influenced greatly by their cultural inherit, for instance, there was an exhibition called 'Kendell Geers, 'Love, By Any Means Necessary', Geers  draws inspiration from the contradictions inherent in his identity as an African artist. Describing himself as 'AniMystikAKtivist', he weaves together diverse Afro-European traditions, including animism, alchemy, mysticism, ritual and a complex socio-political activism laced with humour and irony. A large bronze female figure stands like a sentinel in the gallery window. Her hands have been cut off and replaced with shards of glass. From each broken arm a chain dangles, resembling shackles from which she has liberated herself. A group of smaller bronze masks are influenced by Kota reliquaries, the first sub-Saharan African artworks to be exhibited in the West, examples of which were on display during Pablo Picasso's famous visit to Musée d'ethnographie du Trocadéro, Paris in 1907.

The paintings of Geers exhibited are mostly acrylic on paper or canvas, I like the patterns of flowers flowing on the background of words that arouse interests of thinking of the meanings more than only the sentences .

These works reminds me of  facts and arouse me to think :  white males  in western society hold the leading position and power of discourse in contemporary art around the world for the past hundreds of years, and colored races as well as female artists have to gain attention and recognition by expressing and emphasizing their own blood and tears,  thus get the opportunity to be squarely faced by the art industry, such as winning awards  and  exhibiting by leading public collections .  As far as I visited exhibitions , most of  works of black artists  in London are inescapable of discussing their own ethnic identity and colonial history.

-Sketchbook

The standard requirement volume of sketches is 10-15 pages.Actually I just start to sketch today, but I feel confident to complete the work in time and well because I have collected  piles of methods and perspectives I would like to explore. After doing research on drawings of Picasso, I was interested on the faces he drew, then I was wondering how about organize the combinations or sequences of these faces , will that generate new meanings?

Thus,I draw several pages of draft have the various faces which makes me find that the real valuable work should be a growing one which means I can constinuously adjust and add elements to the work,in this case,I could achieve an outcome that has vitality.

-Workflow

I have listed seven artist and artworks I have interest inland I wish I would have further  research on them and find another seven artists inspires me to sketch in the following days before progress tutorial. When I do further research on Olafur Eliasson,I found more inspiring works of him than I was writing PPP.And  the discovery which is his previous works about foggy rooms not only investigating the use of lights helps me generate much more new perspectives on the same topic.
